Silverton Narrow Gauge Train
This train experience is an exhilarating ride throughout Durango. It is only a short distance from the campground. The train ride allows for people to congegrate in one location and share the common thrill of an indoor/outdoor ride. It allows each individual to foster a sense of authentic human attachment and belonging to place. The Silverton Train is used in relation to those characteristics that make Durango special and unique.
Hiking
There are numerous hiking trails right outside of the park. Hiking is one of those special things that one can do alone to soak up the outdoors and think without the noise of the city. It is an important part of Durango for many reasons: It is a unique piece of landscape which is unscaved other than the trail itself, it is a free activity, and it is an oasis which people can enjoy alone or with numerous amounts of people. These trails have geographic characteristics of place and hold distinct feelings of perceptions by people. They are not bias to age, race, creed, or sexual orientation. It is an extremely freeing feeling to simply walk along a trail surrounded by trees and other wilderness.
White Water Rafting
The campground sets up group river rafting trips which should not be missed. It is an invigorating experience which brings people together in a way like no other. Each person is dependent upon the next to ensure the boat flows in the right direction and everyone is briefed on what to do in case someone exits the raft. It is acknowledged that the raft is a team and each individual must help their teammate. Without each person functioning correctly, the team will not work to its fullest capacity.
